About me

Danielle Smith
BA (Hons), MSc

My name is Danielle and I am the face behind Blue Box Therapy!

In therapy, I use an integrative approach which means I combine different theories and approaches to create a unique experience for you. The three main modalities I am trained in is person-centred approach, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and attachment theory. I also use a mixture of creative approaches as well, to help therapy become more accessible and welcoming.

I am a qualified counsellor and I hold an MSc Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have experience working as a school counsellor, counselling NHS staff and working within private practice. I was also a volunteer counsellor at Childline for 3 years.

Counselling from 16 years to over 60 years across a lifetime

I have experience counselling young people (16 +) and adults, working through different issues such as anxiety, trauma, work-related stress and self-esteem. Through my training, I have mainly worked with adolescents (16-19) and within an in-house counselling team in a healthcare setting. This means I have worked with different stressors across one’s lifetime, from exam stress to the loss around retirement. Therapy is about exploring yourself and how you can learn from the past to help construct your future. At the start of therapy, we work together to map out your personal goals and I help to guide you through.

Being trained in multiple modalities means that I can tailor the therapy to you and your needs. Therapy is a personal and unique experience which I am here to help you through. I recognise that taking the step to see a counsellor can be a big moment for some people and I am here to make that step as comfortable as possible. Therapy is a safe space to explore your thoughts and emotions without judgement.

Upholding integrity, beneficence and respect for clients

My MSc is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which means I maintain a high standard of ethical practice surrounding client confidentiality, autonomy and much more. I am also a Registered MBACP member of the BACP. More information around the BACP and the ethical principles in which I adhere to can be found at BACP.co.uk

I also undergo regular clinical supervision and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses.
